Timeless classics coming to The Lake

You read it here first in my previous blog 102.7 FM goes Christmas, and then...

Looks like The Radio Group is getting ready to pull the trigger on the new format for 102.7 FM the first week of January. Email sources tell us that 102.7 FM (currently playing a lame Christmas format) will switch to Timeless Classics The Lake 102.7 in a new blend of the oldies format. You have to wonder how The Radio Group thinks they can make this format work in the Kingston market when both CORUS and CTVglobemedia dropped their oldies and all-time favourite formats with their switch to FM frequencies earlier this fall.

Time will tell...keep your radio tuned!

Hot Dog!

A hybrid Oldies-Classic Adult Contemporary. Imagine, only number one adult contemporary songs from 1965 to 1985. Finally.

Let's hope that's what turns up on 102.7, the 40 plus crownd would finally have "their" station on FM.

I bet a steak dinner a 10 share in two books (one with enough aggressive marketing).

A better question, what "big name" talent will sit in the morning chair?

Really… do have to wonder how The Radio Group thinks they can make this format work when both CORUS and CTVglobemedia dropped their formats?!?! Let’s reflect… CORUS also dropped Country 96 and gave up country, leading to the birth of KIX… CHUM dropped the River giving up rock, possibly do to the pending launch of K-Rock. CORUS and CHUM gave up roughly 26,000 listeners (2 book average) to flip to FM... leaving a void in the 35-64 audience.
Either way, TRG has done well on formats that others thought couldn’t make money and were dropped due to corporate stupidity! (or pressure… you pick).

Here's an exersize, find an owner/manager/professional - someone who's either male or female and about 50 years old.

Hop in their Lexus, Volvo or Escalade. Have them scan through the radio stations in Kingston.

You can sit and marvel at how they are unable to find a station (right now) that plays song after song that they are really comfortable with.

2cents is right, others got out for some reason, but it wasn't that the market isn't there.

Maybe they figured if they couldn't do it on AM there's no way it could be done on FM.

Corus has it close to right with a Gold-Rock hybrid for 30 plus males and a lite rock for 30 plus women. On the other hand, I'm not sure what CTVchum is doing with a 3 stations targeting virtually the same age group (18-34).

They likely know better than me, I'm simply a consumer of the product.

Thank you 102.7! With the loss of oldies 960 and 1380,you now have at least fifty new listeners. Please don't ever change your format.

Hey Radio Blog Guy!

Why no comments of late .. there is so much to offer .. "The KRock Centre" - David kicks both Goliatths asses in one fantastal check mate move ..

Corus/CTV giants (with amazingly deep pockets) felled by the the little guy, and now they're upset! Hinton and Ferguson busy sleeping on the job while Wright skates shots and scores!

It couldn't have benn written better! Krock/TRG gets a 10, the other, no score, again.

Who's upset? The overwhelming feeling in the CHUM building today is "finally, radio gets some respect!" John Wright has done a very good thing for all three radio groups in this city by scoring the naming rights on KRSEC. I feel confident that by raising the bar, Corus and CHUM will both be freeing up resources for the stations in Kingston. And that's good for everyone.

Good on John!
